Annual Meeting set for Saturday, May 22

Wednesday | December 30, 2020
All News

The 84th Annual Meeting of Members of St. Croix Electric Cooperative is scheduled for Saturday, May 22. 2021. The time, place and format will be announced as the date draws nearer.

The SCEC Board of Directors set the date during its Dec. 7 meeting, so dates tied to the 2021 Director Elections in District 2, District 5 and District 8 could be calculated:

·         Monday, Feb. 1: Candidate Nomination period opens

o   Petitions will be available for pick-up in person from the SCEC office.

o   Potential candidates who have not previously served on the SCEC Board of Directors are required to attend an informational meeting. Contact Communications & Events Coordinator Michele DeLong at communications@scecnet.net or 715-796-5613 to schedule an individual appointment since a group meeting is not possible this year.

·         Tuesday, March 23: Candidate Petition deadline

o   Pursuant to SCEC Bylaws Article 5, Section 4(a): Nomination of candidates for director shall be by petition. To be valid, a petition shall be in a form designated by the Cooperative, shall designate the district the candidate resides in and is being nominated for, shall be signed by not less than ten (10) members from that district (with the signature of either or both joint members counting as one signature), and shall be delivered to the Cooperative’s principal office at least 60 days prior to the annual meeting.

o   Upon validation, the candidate will receive a Candidate Packet containing pertinent Policies, Forms and information.

·         If there are no valid candidates for one or more districts, the Board will at its Monday, April 5 meeting approve a Nominating Committee to be convened no later than Wednesday, April 7.

·         No later than Friday, May 7: Ballots will be mailed to members in districts with more than one candidate.

·         Friday, May 21 at 4pm: Deadline for ballots to be received at the co-op office.

·         Saturday, May 22: Ballots (if any) will be tabulated, single candidate(s) (if any) ratified and directors declared elected

St. Croix Electric Cooperative is governed by a nine-member Board of Directors – one director representing each of the nine districts within the Cooperative service area. Director terms are staggered so that one-third of the nine director seats are elected each year for three-year terms. A director's role includes approving policies, long-range planning and providing the resources leading to the accomplishment of the Cooperative's vision for the future.

Districts in the 2021 election and current directors are:

District 2 – Most of the Town of Troy, minus the northeast quarter (which is in District 5). Currently represented by Al Wilkie, first elected in 2015.

District 5 – The towns of Rush River, Pleasant Valley and Kinnickinnic and the northeast quarter of the Town of Troy. Currently represented by Bill Findlay, first elected in 2006.

District 8 – The towns of Cady, Springfield, Glenwood and Forest in St. Croix County, Spring Lake in Pierce County and Lucas and Tiffany in Dunn County. Currently represented by Doug Faber, first elected to a two-year term in 2019.
