Committed to #PowerOn with our SCEC community
Powering our community. Over the past six weeks we have seen our country go from the lowest unemployment rate to the highest since the Great Depression. Over 30 million people have lost their jobs since March 1, 2020. We all pray this is temporary and our economy will rebound quickly, but it will take time and individuals and families will face ongoing hardships in the meantime.
We all know a family member, friend or neighbor who has been affected financially through the loss of a job or a significant reduction in their work hours or income. Many forms of assistance are available like extended unemployment benefits, small business loans through the Paycheck Protection Program and meals available from local schools and food pantries. All these new programs contribute toward easing the hardships we are facing, but everyone still has bills to pay.
For those directly impacted and who may have difficulty paying your electric bill, SCEC encourages you to contact us early. Energy Assistance is available to members who qualify for heating assistance through their county of residence as well as from some other local sources.
Along with some temporary policy changes in response to this period of abnormal economic disruption, SCEC has established the #PowerOn Bill Credit program.
Members and non-members can participate by either purchasing Bill Credits and donating them to a general fund set up specifically to help members pay their SCEC bill, or by purchasing Bill Credits and giving them to friends, relatives or neighbors – either as an immediate credit on the recipient’s account, or in the form of paper gift certificate to be redeemed later by the member.
Contributions to the general #PowerOn fund will be administered by an internal SCEC team according to established criteria.
Grateful for the opportunity to continue to serve our SCEC community through these trying times, SCEC employees and Board members have donated over $2,000 to jumpstart the #PowerOn general fund. We encourage you to join us in helping those affected by contributing either to the general fund or directly to a family, friend or neighbor who may need some additional assistance.
Please join us in helping those most impacted.
