SCEC President/CEO
I have some exciting news to share with you this month. First, we have successfully transitioned to a new enterprise software, and the first monthly bills were issued via the new billing system; and second, it is that time of year again for patronage capital credits.
The SCEC staff has worked tirelessly to make the transition to the new software as seamless as possible for members (and ourselves). Countless hours have been spent on preparing, validating data and learning the new system. However, nothing ever goes flawlessly. We have experienced a few hiccups that resulted in an increased number of phone calls to the office and an increased wait time to get your calls answered. We have a list of items we are working on correcting or modifying.
We greatly appreciate your patience and your help in pointing out issues that may have arisen in the conversion and with the new system. A couple of items were pointed out by our dedicated members, and we thank you for contacting us. Even with all the testing and data validation we performed, some items simply could not have been discovered until the bills were printed and mailed.
The most noticeable change we are working on is how the fixed charge appears on your bill. Residential bills state a $1.19 per day fixed charge for 30 days, which is incorrect. The actual fixed charge amount on the bill of $35.65 is correct ($1.15\day * 31 days in August). The daily fixed charge was NOT increased – it remains $1.15 per day – and August has 31 days. Our testing on the bill amounts confirmed the amounts as being correct, but the bills printed with incorrect billing units.
The good news this month is that if you received your electricity through St. Croix Electric Cooperative in 2000 and/or 2017, on your next bill received after Oct. 15 you will see a patronage capital CREDIT that DECREASES the amount you owe! And if you were a member of St. Croix Electric Cooperative in 1992, 1993 and/or 1994, you will also receive a patronage capital credit from Dairyland Power Cooperative, our wholesale energy provider.
SCEC was incorporated in 1937. Since the first round of capital credits was retired in 1963, we have returned to members more than $19 million.
Thank you for your patience and assistance during our software conversion and THANK YOU for being a loyal member of St. Croix Electric Cooperative.
Until next month,
